Commando--Morgan Trayhern the famous character from the popular series by Lindsay McKenna has formed his own company called Perseus. The main goal of this company is to make the world a better place. Morgan has plenty of resources at his disposal and his company is made up of only the best. Jake Randolph is one of those men and this is his story. Jake's next mission is to be a bodyguard for the beautiful Shah Travers. Shah's father, at first, paid Perseus to kidnap his daughter and bring her home, but he quickly learned that kidnaping is not a part of what Perseus does, so he agrees to having Jake as her bodyguard. Shah's job is to investigate the destruction of the tropical rain forest in Brazil. The job has turned dangerous for Shah, but she refuses to back down from the men that are threatening her if she continues to investigate. Jake has suffered a tremendous personal loss in his past and is surprised at his feelings for Shah. Shah has suffered at the hands of all of the men in her life. She has learned to be distrustful and has a hard time accepting Jake's offer of help, but eventually she gives in. Together Jake and Shah face the danger from the men determined to destroy the rainforest and together they work through the pain in both of their pasts. This is the story of a man, given a second chance at love and happiness, and his courage to take it.
Shah Sungilo Travers is in Brazil fighting to protect the rain forest. Her father (Ken Travers) wants her out of the Brazil. He has a vested interest in cutting the trees and doesn’t want her to interfere. He goes to Perseus and wants Morgan to kidnap her and bring her back. Morgan has Jack Randolph attend the meeting with Ken Travers. Jack states that he can go and be her bodyguard but will not force her to return to the states. Ken is not happy with that answer but doesn’t have any choice but to accept, with the rider that Jack try to get her to agree to come back to the states. When Jack meets Shah she is involved in a confrontation with Hernandez (a man who was illegally cutting trees). He is ordering her to stay off his property. Shah and Jack proceed to get a video of Hernandez’s illegally cutting timber. They have to survive both him men and the jungle. And then see their way to be able to love each other, not an easy feat for either of them. Shah has trust issues and Jack is still recovering from the loss of his family. This book will show you both the destruction of man, and the beauty of the Jungle. Lindsay writes in such a way as to capture your interest within the first couple paragraphs and keep you involved till the end. Anyone who enjoys romance and cares about mother earth will definitely enjoy this book.

EASY READ. Strong characters, great hero, unusual storyline, good descriptions, a convincing supporting cast with greedy, menacing, evil villains. HOWEVER, the repetitive inner angst is annoying and the heroine is often strident and stubborn. There is an underlying, sometime overbearing, religious theme, the romance is very rushed, details are inconsistent, and the writing is obvious, wordy, and drags in places, making the book painful to get through.

THE STORY follows mercenary turned bodyguard, Jake Randolph, assigned to protect man-hating, eco-activist Shah Sungilo Travers, in Brazil to film evidence of illegal clear cutting in the rain forest. Attacked by greedy land barons and their gun-toting henchmen, and facing swift river currents, wildlife, and other jungle dangers, Jake and Shah work together to survive and get out with the proof.

OVERALL engaging environmental storyline, but the writing is awkward, dated, and desperately needs editing. Bottom line, if you don't plan to read the series, skip it, there are better books out there.

The prequel is Return of a Hero. MORGAN'S MERCENARIES includes Heart of the Wolf, The Rogue, and Commando.

You may enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, L. L. Miller, and R. C. Ryan. For sweet, funny, romances with great descriptive imagery and heart touching angst, try Susan Fox, Cara Colter, and E. Palfrey.
I love her action, romance novels. What's not to love about her Alpha male characters . All her novels are a must read. Once you start you don't want to stop reading.
